The location of the Ristorante San Marco is next to the Ponte dei Dai; according to ancient documents, the bridge was called "Dadi", so there is a reliable theory that the bridge was named after the Dadi da Dio family that lived right here or another theory according to which gaming dice were sold in this area.
It is well known, in fact, that in the past, it was very common for Venetians to play this game on the streets. There were also laws, dating back to the thirteenth century, regulating the game of dice and forbidding it to be played in some parts of the city, such as under the portico of St. Mark's Basilica or under the Ducal Palace.
